How much paint do I need for a room?
Measure the perimeter of the room and the wall height to get the wall area, subtract doors and windows, then divide by your paint's coverage (about 350-400 sq ft per gallon, or 10-12 sq m per litre) and multiply by the number of coats. This free calculator does all of that for you - just enter the room size and coats.
How many coats of paint should I use?
Two coats is standard for an even, durable finish. Use the calculator's coats field to plan one, two or three coats - it scales the paint quantity automatically.
Does the paint calculator account for doors and windows?
Yes. Enter the number of standard doors and windows and the calculator subtracts their area from the paintable wall surface so you do not over-buy.
